Endor is like David or the Sistine Chapel ceiling - monumental, not least because of the techniques available at the time.
The biggest obstacle to success is that they are so, they're hard-pressed to be evocative or even derivative. I personally prefer the original version of Yavin, but holy dang, ILM made Endor happen on-screen in '83 with the only precedents set by itself in '80 and '77.
Also, for me, Rogue One had some real visual and conceptual novelty that supercharged emotional investment. I did not think the patented, helmeted-actor-in-a-bouncing-cockpit-set could get me excited again.
